Fire update - August 4

For those traveling, yet another mudslide has closed highway 97.  This time it's 5km north of Cache Creek to highway 99.  Check DriveBC for the latest information.

A reminder that a campfire ban is now in place for the Cariboo as of July 31.  Official details here.

Beautiful weather, mostly sunny at the lake today with a high of 24C.  As nice as it was here, Lang Lake had some lightning, and the province saw another 22 new fires so far.

There are currently 19 fires listed as "Out of control" in the Cariboo.

New fires include:

Lang Lake - three new fires.  Two southwest of the lake, and one next to the existing fire from yesterday.  The biggest is on the east side of the lake and listed at 4 ha.

Canim Lake - another fire south of Canim Lake.  No details yet.

Existing notable fires:
Gotchen Lake - on the north end of the lake.  Still no details.

Mt Hendrix - Of the remaining three fires east of the mountain, two are listed as "Out of control" and still at 1ha and 1.5ha.  Still no information on the third.  No smoke visible.

Canim Lake - south of the lake up in the mountains.  The 0.1 ha fire is "Being Held".

Horse Lake Rd - directly east of 100 Mile House, and north of Horse Lake.  Only one fire remaining of this cluster of seven.  No details on it.

Horsefly Lake - there are approximately 12 of the original 18 fires around the Horsefly & Quesnel Lake area still active, but there are three new fires in the last 24 hours.  Only one still appears to be of note.  It's on the north shore of Horsefly Lake, 526ha in size and now 80% contained.  100% containment by end of today is the goal.  All evacuation orders for the area have been rescinded.
