Fire update - August 5

For those traveling, yesterday's mudslide north Cache Creek on highway 97 is still being cleaned up.  Alternating single lane traffic is progressing, but expect heavy delays.  Check DriveBC for the latest information.

A reminder that a campfire ban is now in place for the Cariboo as of July 31.  Official details here.

Beautiful weather, mostly sunny at the lake today with a high of 27C with very little breeze.

Quite a few new fires scattered throughout the province today.  Only 13 listed as 0.01ha or larger at this moment, but I expect that number could double in the next couple of days.

There are currently 16 fires listed as "Out of control" in the Cariboo.

New fires include:

McKinley Lake - two new fires northeast of the lake.  No details yet.

Existing notable fires:
Mt Hendrix - Of the remaining three fires east of the mountain, two are still  listed as "Out of control" and still at 1ha and 1.5ha.  No information on the third.  No smoke visible.

Lang Lake -  still four fires around the lake.  The biggest is on the east side of the lake, is listed at 4 ha and is now "Being Held".

Gotchen Lake - This fire is out.

Canim Lake - there are two fires south of the lake up in the mountains.  A third fire that was originally reported on August 1st has re-appeared on the map.  No specifics yet on any of the fires.

Horse Lake Rd - directly east of 100 Mile House, and north of Horse Lake.  Still only one fire remaining of this cluster of seven.  No details on it.

Horsefly Lake - there are approximately 12 of the original 18 fires around the Horsefly & Quesnel Lake area still active, and two new fires in the last 24 hours.  Only one still appears to be of note.  It's on the north shore of Horsefly Lake, 526ha in size and now 100% contained.  It is still listed as "Out of Control", but I expect that to change to "Being Held" in the next couple of days.  All evacuation orders for the area have been rescinded.
