Here we go - 2018 fire season begins

Wednesday's lightning storm was on-par with July 8 from last year.  Most of the new fires are in a fairly narrow band from Kamloops to NE of Terrace.  Over night, there were a few new fires (mostly NW of Prince George), but also a few extinguished.  One of the latter is the Buffalo Creek fire, which started a couple of days ago, and was tackled quickly.

Calm winds today should aid firefighting efforts.  I expect we'll see many of the red dots below disappear in a day or two.  There is a slight smokey haze at Hendrix Lake today.
