Fire Season

Overnight low +7C, daytime high of 33C.

Hottest day of the year so far.  Warm temps have brought out the black flies, they were officially out in force a few days ago.  Bug spray is mandatory.

With this heatwave brings the probability of fires.  Though we've had some heavy rains in the past couple of weeks, the forests are still very dry.  Fire danger rating in the Cariboo is mostly moderate & high, with pockets of extreme conditions.  No campfire ban yet, but there is a severe thunderstorm warning for the Cariboo for Wednesday June 20.  If that storm is anything like the one last year, we could be in trouble again.  I've added a link to the BC Wildfires website so you can find the latest information.

I will also be updating this site with regular wildfire summaries if this summer is anything like last summer.  For those who received me emails last year, please check here instead.

Snow is melting fast in the alpine.  The below picture was from a couple of weeks ago, there won't be much left (if any) around the mine now.  I expect Big Timothy will be snow-free by July.
