Fire Update - June 22

Another day of lightning storms across the province yesterday.  Many areas (including Hendrix Lake) also saw heavy rain, which mitigated some of the damage and short-term risk.  There is a slight smokey haze in town this morning.

New fires include:
Lang Lake - small fire NE of Lang.  This fire is approximately 12km SW of Hendrix Lake.  No further information about this fire yet.

Batchelor Heights (Kamloops).  Grass fire likely caused by lightening, adjacent to rural neighbourhood.  Smoke could be seen from everywhere in town.  As expected, firefighters got on this one quickly with bombers and support crews.  I expect it will be officially classified as "Out" in a few days when they can confirm there are no remaining hot spots.

McLean Lake Rd (Cache Creek).  Small fire 7km from Cache Creek.  No further information about this fire yet.

Some of the smaller fires in the Cariboo from Wednesday were extinguished (including Buffalo Creek), but there are still currently over 100 active fires in BC.  Some numbers from the past two days.

June 20: 55 new fires, 46 still active
June 21:  39 new fires, all still active
