More thunderstorms across the province today brought an onslaught of new fires including at least 17 between Quesnel & Horsefly lakes. There are 29 new fires currently listed as being over 0.01 hectares and I expect that will grow to 40 or higher. This comes on the heels of yesterday's 36 new fires.
There are currently 14 fires listed as "Out of control" in the Cariboo.
New fires include:
Horse Lake Rd - directly east of 100 Mile House, and north of Horse Lake. Small fire, no details yet.
Lac la Hache - 4km south of Lac la Hache and 10km west of the highway. Small fire, no details yet.
Existing notable fires:
Mt. Hendrix - listed as "Being Held", but this fire is essentially out. There has been no smoke since yesterday, and this evening's short rain shower surely finished off any hot spots.
Goode's Creek - Okanagan Mtn Park at 1,370ha. Firefighters continue to battle this one. The hot weather and valley-riddled terrain are the main obstacles to getting it under control.
