Fire update - August 7

Beautiful weather again today at the lake today with a high of 27C. Unfortunately, the smoke rolled in over night, and you could actually smell it for the first time this year. It wasn't overwhelming, but not ideal. It mostly cleared by mid-afternoon, but started to settle-in again early evening.

Another 15-20 new fires today across the province, 12 listed as 0.01ha or larger at this time.  North of Horse Lake again added a new fire, so there are now four.  None of these are of note as of yet.

There are currently 19 fires listed as "Out of control" in the Cariboo.

New fires include:

Existing notable fires:
McKinley Lake - two fires northeast of the lake. Both fires are out.

Mt Hendrix - Of the remaining three fires east of the mountain, two are still  listed as "Out of control" and still at 1ha and 1.5ha.  I suspect all of these fires are actually out.

Lang Lake -  still three fires around the lake (one was updated to "Out" today).  The biggest is now on the south side of the lake and listed at 42ha.  The east side fire is listed at 10 ha and is still "Being Held".

Canim Lake -  The fire that was originally reported on August 1st and re-appeared on the map on Sunday still has no specifics.

Horse Lake Rd - directly east of 100 Mile House, and north of Horse Lake.  Three existing fires plus the one new fires from today.  One is 1ha and another is 0.1ha.  No details on the others.

Horsefly Lake - there are approximately 10 fires around the Horsefly & Quesnel Lake area still active.  Only one still appears to be of note.  It's on the north shore of Horsefly Lake, remains 526ha in size and 100% contained.  It is still listed as "Out of Control", but I expect that to change to "Being Held" any day now.  All evacuation orders for the area have been rescinded.

July 17-19:  64 new fires, 20 still active
July 30-Aug 1:  181 new fires, 128 still active
All of May: 125 new fires, 6 still active
All of June: 178 new fires, 16 still active
All of July: 298 new fires, 123 still active
All of Aug: 225 new fires, 173 still active
