While we're waiting...

... Here are a couple of pictures I took today while kayaking in cottage country Ontario.

Crystal clear waters of Lake Huron

Great day on the lake

Rocky shores:  all is not well though, the water level is currently near all-time lows.  Some cottage owners now have far more waterfront than they wished for.  Others in shallow bays have little or no water access, and drastically reduced property values.

Evidence abounds, the shores are littered with 'beached' docks.  Appropriately placed just a few years ago, they now lay idly by, patiently waiting the return of a high tide that may never return.  Most people have not built new docks.  Nobody knows if the new level is temporary or permanent.

My parents' place isn't too bad comparatively speaking.  They now have an additional 60' to reach the water, but the land then drops off significantly. They could lose another 5' and still be OK.  Only time knows for sure the fate of this piece of cottage country.
